Donald Trump gave himself high marks for his response to the hurricane that devastated Puerto Rico in a Thursday morning meeting with the governor of Puerto Rico.
“I would give myself a 10,” Trump said when asked by reporters how he would score his efforts, on a 1-10 scale.
“We have provided so much, so fast,” Trump said, adding the disaster in Puerto Rico was “worse than Katrina.”
Trump spoke during a meeting with Puerto Rico Gov. Ricardo Rosselló, who is in Washington to push the federal government to meet the island’s needs.
Trump’s self-assessment is at odds with many in Puerto Rico who have criticized the administration’s response.
More than 80 percent of the island remains without electricity and large swaths of the island still do not have access to clean water.
“In these emergencies, things might have the appearance that they are stabilizing at one point, but you always have future problems that can arise such as public health emergencies and otherwise,” Rosselló told reporters. “We really want to take all of the big picture.”
Rossello met with GOP Sen. Marco Rubio, whose state has a large population of Puerto Ricans, before heading to the White House.
