Following his appearance at the religious extremist gathering called the “Voters Values Summit,” Trump returned to the White House in order to announce a major policy change on behalf of those same right-wing warmongers – the decertification of the Iran Deal.

By “decertifying it,” Trump has once again passed the buck back to a Republican-controlled Congress that is dutifully foaming at the mouth to provoke some kind of conflict with Iran on behalf of their backers in Israel and in the military-industrial complex.

“We cannot and will not make this certification. We will not continue down a path whose predictable conclusion is more violence” declared Trump, putting the United States down a path whose only predictable conclusion is more violence.

Of course, Trump’s dog-and-pony show was a stunning example of American narcissism. There are five other major powers signed on to the Iran deal, and Trump cannot unilaterally upend this deal just because he feels like it – as he was quickly reminded by Federica Mogherini, the European Union’s foreign policy chief.

The Iran deal is “working and delivering” said Mogherini, who reminded President Trump that he cannot simply terminate the deal by himself, but that a collective process must take place and that the European Union still fully supports the deal.

If Trump chooses to go down this path, no country will ever trust the United States again. Why would they, when we’ve demonstrated that any deal a nation makes with us is likely to be overturned in a few years when governments change and an honorable peacemaker like President Obama is replaced with an idiot carnival barker whose primary concern is soothing his own ego and playing golf.

There is literally nothing to be gained from severing the Iran deal, which our own military concedes has been faithfully upheld by both sides. But the neocon puppet masters that pull Donald Trump’s strings have been gunning for a conflict with Iran for decades, and they aren’t about to let their best opportunity slip through their bloody fingers.
